Hardware for PacWeigh Software

Versions

 PacWeigh Software is available in 2 versions.

Standalone - The data may reside on the local drive or on server drive. If stored on a server drive it can be be accessed and used by only one station at a time.

Multi-User - This version works in conjunction with Extended Systems Advantage Client Server database. Client server software must be installed on the server where the data is to be stored.  Workstation requirements remain the same as the standalone system

The system can be customized to use other corporate databases for all or parts of the data storage.

Work Stations Requirements

Almost any new computer system will meet the requirements given below.  The Work Station requires: 

• Windows 2000 Professional or XP Professional
• CD ROM (for Installation only)
• 256mb RAM or higher.
• 600mhz – P3 minimum
• 600mb free drive space
• 17" Monitor (required resolution of 1024 x 768)
• At least one available serial port for each scale.
• At least one available suitable port (serial, parallel or USB) for each printer
• Serial port / modem / or LAN connection for remote support (PC Anywhere or similar) if this is desired.

Printers

• Ticket Printers can be any standard printer. Multi-part tickets will require impact printers

• On-line Audit printers must be dot matrix continuous line printers

• Report Printers can be a Windows Compatible Printer

 

Ports

• One serial port for each scale

• One local parallel printer port is required for on-line audit printing

• One port is required for each ticket printer or report printer (USB, serial, parallel, network printer

• One serial port for Traffic control systems

 

Networks

Extended Systems Advantage Client Server database requires Novell Netware or Microsoft 2000/2003 server. WAN access should be ISDN connection or better.

Other Hardware Issues

• Backups should be maintained on a daily bases to either a network server, flash drive or some other removable media.
• A UPS (battery backed/surge protected power source) is recommended.  A UPS helps prevent data corruption from unexpected power failures
